Oil refineries are industrial plants that transform or refine crude oil into various usable petroleum products such as diesel, gasoline, and heating oils. The first refinery in India was established in 1893, near Digboi, Assam. Presently India has 18 public sector refineries and five refineries in the private sector/or as a joint venture.
